Greek, 1st century AD, Marble, Antinous, Hadrian's Love
It is considered to be one of the striking points of the multiple images of Antinous left us by Hadrian and the Cult of Antinous: the young man represented is not the muscled Greek youth typical of stylized Hellenistic works, but rather is individualized in it's proportions, facial features and muscle tone. It is, therefore, believed that these are indeed portarits of Antinous much as he was and not an overly idealized stereotype.
